This training centre was formed on 25-08-1981. It is situated at a place called Perungudi, 9 KM south of the Madurai City. The original proposal was to have P & T staff quarters here. Later it was planned by the Postmaster-General, Madras, to start a Postal Training Centre in this place utilizing the 72 quarters.
The following are the missions of PTC Madurai.
- To design and impart need based training, keeping the vision of Indiapost in mind.

- To make every postal official customer friendly.
- To make every postal official business oriented, capable of selling postal products and services.
- To make every postal official techno savvy.
- To improve the supervisory ability of postal officials.
- To carry out Postal research.
- To involve in community service.
