This training centre was formed on 25-08-1981. It is situated at a place called Perungudi, 9 KM south of the Madurai City. The original proposal was to have P & T staff quarters here. Later it was planned by the Postmaster-General, Madras, to start a Postal Training Centre in this place utilizing the 72 quarters. Initially the training centre started functioning with a total strength of 25 trainees in a classroom.
Then Hon. Minister for Communications Thiru.C. M. Stephen, laid foundation stone for the faculty block on 06.09.1981 and the new faculty block was opened for use on 06.09.1982. Many subsequent improvements and additions have been undertaken. Today this Centre has five class rooms, five computer labs, a conference hall, an auditorium, an examination hall, & model post office, etc.
How to reach:
Those coming through train may come to Periyar Bus Station, which is close to the railway station. From Periyar Bus Station, numerous town buses are available to reach PTC. Those coming through bus service may reach the Central Bus Stand called “Maattuthaavani.” The following are the bus routes plying to/through Perungudi.
From Periyar Bus Stand:
10A, 10B, 10F, 76, 76A, 37, 37B, 56, 56A, 72, 72A
From Maattuthaavani Bus Stand:
16B &16F. Direct bus may be infrequent. If no bus is readily available, you may first reach Periyar Bus Stand and from there board the bus to Perungudi.
From Arappalayam Busstand:
Those who reach Arappalayam Bus Stand also will have to first reach Periyar Bus Stand to take the bus to Perungudi.
